The
solid entrance and exit gates are made from planks of oak.
A
wide path laid with pale red paving bricks runs on a straight line and leads to
the centre of the Mars Garden. Here, in an open gravelled
area, one will find a fire pit, where a campfire will sometimes be burning. From
the centre, another path leads directly to the exit. Narrower paths lead
to two smaller open areas exhibiting sculptures made of iron bars, steel wire
mesh or similar.
| The planted
areas of the Mars Garden are covered with perennials and shrubs that are mainly
thorny and produce red flowers or red fruit, such as berberis, redleaf rose (Rosa
glauca), flowering quince (Chaenomeles speciosa), red shrub roses, red tulips
and dahlias, astilbes, bergamot (Monarda didyma) and purple coneflower (Echinacea
purpurea), as well as with red-leaved and red-barked plants, for instance smoke
tree (Cotinus coggygria), red-barked dogwood (Cornus alba Sibirica), leatherleaf
sedge (Carex buchananii) and tormentil (Potentilla erecta).
